The Devil Wears Prada Getting a Sequel

Ten years after The Devil Wears Prada was published, author Lauren Weisberger will be debuting its sequel, Entertainment Weekly reports. Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, as the book is called, will hit shelves in April 2013; surely a movie sequel won’t be far behind.
The novel still centers around Andrea “Andy” Sachs, but picks up eight years later. Instead of working for fashion editor Miranda Priestly at Runway magazine, Andy is now editing The Plunge, the hottest bridal magazine around, alongside Emily, her former Runway nemesis-turned-best friend. She’s also planning a wedding to Max, her handsome media scion fiance. But all is not well: Andy remains haunted by her former boss—they ended on bad terms, and the magazine world is small, after all.

Marc Jacobs’s New Ads Feature Those Giant Furry Hats

Marc Jacobs’s Fall 2012 hats—done in collaboration with Stephen Jones—made a splash on the runway, so it’s no surprise they figure prominently into the collection’s new campaign, too. Up-and-coming faces Marie Piovesan and Marte Mei van Haaster feature in the Juergen Teller-lensed images, sporting eye-ringing makeup alongside those Jamiroquai-inspired toppers. Ksubi Launches First Ever Trunk Show on Moda Operandi

Cult favorite Australian brand Ksubi has paired with Moda Operandi to host its first ever trunk show, kicking off online today through June 4. When M’O's artistic director Taylor Tomasi Hill visited Australian Fashion Week earlier this month, the collection caught her eye. “Ksubi has really gone back to their roots,” she told ELLE. “They’re not trying to go as ‘fashion’—instead they’re focusing on their denim, and it was really special.” To celebrate the partnership, Hill styled the collection in a video shot by Bettina Santo Domingo; see it after the cut.

Angelina Jolie’s Jewelry Collection to Launch in Stores This Fall

Jeweler Robert Procop, who collaborated with Brad Pitt on Angelina Jolie’s engagement ring, has had a long history with the couple since he met Jolie in 2000. He’s helped Jolie design Christmas gifts for Pitt and teamed up with her in 2010 to launch Style of Jolie, a collection of emerald and citrine pieces mounted in gold starting at $4,000. “We’re designing things she would wear, that she really truly loves,” Procop told the New York Times. “Then we sell them and give 100 percent to charity.”
The proceeds all go toward Jolie’s charitable foundation, the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, and have already funded a school for girls in Afghanistan, WWD reports. And come September, the collection will be more readily available—previously sold only by private appointment, Style of Jolie will launch at select boutiques in countries including Russia, China, the U.S. and Turkey.

Tiffany’s May Discontinue Its Iconic Heart Necklace

Tiffany’s may be losing some of its most iconic designs. The luxe jeweler’s 38-year partnership with Italian designer Elsa Peretti—which has produced instantly recognizable pieces like the bean, the open heart, and the starfish—is reportedly coming to an end.
Although 72-year-old Peretti receives royalties on those pieces (which since 2009 have accounted for 10 percent of Tiffany’s sales), she has expressed interest in “retiring” her relationship with Tiffany & Co., WWD reports.
If that happens, Tiffany will only have a year and a half to sell Peretti-designed pieces. After that, their sale will no longer be allowed. So if you’re a fan of anything Peretti—the time to buy may be now!

Anthropologie Teams with Indie Designers for June

Anthropologie launched its Made in Kind initiative—highlighting pieces from both emerging and established indie designers—back in April, and now a new round of partnerships are about to drop. June’s exclusive capsules are from Karen Walker and recent Parsons grad Leah Goren—who’s partial to animal prints. Plus, there are selections from the Montreal-based, digital print-centric line Norwegian Wood and mother and daughter team Family Affairs. The pieces, which run $68 to $298, hit stores on May 28. Get a peek at Karen Walker’s Hi There! line for the retailer after the cut.

SCAD Ups the Fashion Game in Savannah

The lights dimmed inside the Savannah College of Art and Design’s Trustees Theater Saturday evening, leaving spotlights shining on the senior fashion design students’ runway show.  The production spoke to the core of what the school is all about—encouraging cross-discipline collaborations. Not only did student work star, the show was actually produced, art directed, and primarily assembled by SCAD enrollments and alumni.  It’s this kind of creative freedom that has enabled the school to raise its profile.
The school has shown monumental change in the past three years, with a nearly 16 percent increase in enrollment—due in part to the university’s recent recruits: former Saks Fifth Avenue vice president and women’s fashion director Michael Fink (hired three years ago as the school’s dean), Jinah Oh, a veteran of Escada and Cartier (who has helped develop a fashion business major), and Carmella Spinelli, snagged from Parsons to chair fashion design at SCAD. Just three years ago, fashion was a small portion of the school’s design department. But according to Fink, “President [Paula] Wallace recognized that fashion was a department that had grown so much, it had to become its own school.”

New Skin-Firming Products for Bikini Season

With the unofficial start of summer just a week away, so begins the annual search for something that will undo the past few months of hibernation (or at least the time spent on the couch watching Downton Abbey). While the cold, hard truth is that there’s no real replacement for regular exercise, healthy eating habits, and good genes, a handful of new beauty products promise to give problem areas a temporary boost.
Ren is releasing a Body Contouring Anti-Cellulite Gel in July. This formulation uses pink pepper seed, coffee beans, and horse chestnut to encourage circulation and the draining of toxins below the surface of the skin—but superficially, it’s the refreshing, minty scent that will make you reapply. If you don’t want to wait, L’Occitane’s limited-edition Almond Shaping Delight (a lightly scented gel that you massage in) is already on shelves.

Mark Revamps Its Hair Line—and Introduces a Styling Compact

Next month, the brand will launch a five-piece hair care collection composed of styling products for straight and curly textures. They will replace the company’s existing hair care items, says Gail Boye, VP of mark product development: “We upgraded the packaging and formulas, infusing them with exotic oils and super nutrients.”

Pastel Hair Still Going Strong at Chanel

Just when we thought the pink (or blue or green) hair trend might be dying down—the look first started gaining traction over two years ago after Proenza Schouler’s Spring 2010 show, after all—Lady Gaga debuted pastel-streaked hair last week. Then, today in Versailles, hairstylist Sam McKnight sent the Chanel Cruise 2013 models out onto the runway in pastel-colored pageboy crops, solidifying the fact that the trend still has legs. Although it’s not visibly apparent from the front, McKnight actually created what he called a “bob-top”: “wigs dyed grey pastel then sliced in half to reveal low pony with massive bow,” he explained on Twitter, to go with the show’s punk Marie Antoinette theme. Makeup artist Peter Phillips painted tiny interlocking-C logos on the models’ faces, meanwhile, a tribute to Marie Antoinette’s signature beauty mark.

Trending on the Red Carpet: The White Slit Dress

The red carpet choices of four very different women converged this week, making a strong argument for the white slit dress. On Monday, Anja Rubik set tongues wagging with her daringly high-cut Anthony Vaccarello gown at the Met Ball. Claire Danes attended the same event in a more feminine J. Mendel gown, but it, too, had a slit. The following night, Kate Middleton surprised at the Thirty Club’s annual dinner in London in a demure Roland Mouret gown—with a sexy thigh-high slit. And Rihanna rounded out the bunch last night at Battleship‘s Los Angeles premiere in a leg-baring Adam Selman number. Given its red carpet frequency in the span of a week, the style is having a moment—perhaps not easily translatable in the every day, but given that it’s wedding season, inspiration for the unconventional bride?

Fendi Re-Issues the Original It Bag

The original it bag—the Fendi Baguette, made famous in part by Carrie’s favoritism towards it on Sex and the City—is turning 15 this year. To celebrate, Fendi is re-releasing limited editions of six of the bag’s most famous styles (there have been over 1,000 different versions—in materials like fur, sequins, and crocodile skin—made since it was first introduced) in its boutiques. The bags retail from $1,000 up to $3,000-plus, and the announcement comes hot on the tails of Prada re-issuing its own set of popular vintage styles.

Madewell Debuts Sunnies

Madewell is prepping to expand in a big way, and one of the ways they’re making it happen? Putting their playful spin on a debut collection of sunglasses.
Historically, the brand has stocked thick-framed shades from partner labels like Han Kjobenhavn and Super, but with their own five styles introduced into the mix, options include the cat-eyed Pin-ups, the retro oversized Starlets, and the more modern round-framed pink Hepcats (left). And perhaps best of all, the new range hovers around $50 a pop—perfect for those of us who tend to scratch, break, or lose our glasses.

Banana Republic Goes Slim Aarons

Freshly off her brightly-colored Met Ball turn in vintage Givenchy, Coco Rocha is slipping into another, equally-vibrant dress, this time for Banana Republic.
Rocha is the face of the retailer’s upcoming limited-edition collaboration with Trina Turk—60 dresses, accessories, sunglasses, swimsuits, and more, in Turk’s signature bold patterns, all inspired the Palm Springs lifestyle. Thus, it’s only logical that the campaign would be photographed in just that locale—the Richard Neutra-designed Kaufmann House in Palm Springs—and inspired by a photographer known for his dreamy retro images of Palm Springs life: Slim Aarons. “The Slim Aarons photo of ladies having drinks at the pool has been an inspiration for our brand,” Turk told WWD. The collection debuts June 7.
