New Skin-Firming Products for Bikini Season

With the unofficial start of summer just a week away, so begins the annual search for something that will undo the past few months of hibernation (or at least the time spent on the couch watching Downton Abbey). While the cold, hard truth is that there’s no real replacement for regular exercise, healthy eating habits, and good genes, a handful of new beauty products promise to give problem areas a temporary boost.
Ren is releasing a Body Contouring Anti-Cellulite Gel in July. This formulation uses pink pepper seed, coffee beans, and horse chestnut to encourage circulation and the draining of toxins below the surface of the skin—but superficially, it’s the refreshing, minty scent that will make you reapply. If you don’t want to wait, L’Occitane’s limited-edition Almond Shaping Delight (a lightly scented gel that you massage in) is already on shelves.

Among the products included in French beauty brand Ioma’s body range (which arrived stateside this spring) is their Slimming and Contouring Gel. The milky lotion targets triglycerides—that would be fatty acids—with the help of an all-natural, fragrance-free combination of plant extracts. If you can’t make it to their counter at Saks Fifth Avenue, where a one-on-one consultation features micro-electronic mechanical technology to analyze your skin and how it reacts to their products, skeptics are encouraged to check Ioma’s abundance of in-house clinical studies.

For targeted upkeep, you can tone and smooth your derriere (see Rodial’s re-released Bum Lift gel), your abs (thanks to Nip + Fab’s citrus-smelling Tummy Fix, which came out this winter), and your face (courtesy of Clarins’ newly formulated Extra-Firming Day Cream, which has SPF 15 to boot).

If you’d like to kill two birds with one stone and tone skin while getting a glow, St. Tropez’s new Gradual Tan Plus Firming lotion does a good job of multi-tasking. The formulation boasts a cutting-edge ingredient list, including a melanin-mimicker to give a natural bronze and a cell energizer to strengthen and reinvigorate tired skin. For those not ready to commit to a permanent tan, Per-fekt just released a matte version of its Body Perfection Gel for summer. The gel-to-powder mixture evens out color, increases elasticity with hyaluronic microspheres, and washes off with soap and water at the end of the night.
